President's Message
Kia ora e te whānau
I want to raise with you an issue of critical importance - an URGENT priority.
You!
Yes, you!
On the cusp of the decision to move to level 2 and after weeks of working at a crescendo pace you have a small window to take a moment.
Should the Prime Minister and Director General of Health signal a move to level 2 on Monday 11 May, then we have no more important job than ensuring it is crystal clear that school is open and that all students are invited to return.
We have a job to assuage fear and build confidence. Public health advice will be unequivocal - it will be safe to restart schooling for everyone.
We accept the public health advice and we will be working to support it.
The challenges that lie ahead of us belong to NEXT week.
And that leaves, YOU.
This weekend you are required to:
- cease all work - zip, zilch, nada, nought, nil
- stay away from your email
- binge watch a great Netflix series
- order your favourite takeaway
- sleep in past lunchtime (go on, I dare you)
- reread that book that made your heart sing
- dip your toes in a lake or the ocean
- put yourself first
You have been working at pace and under high stress for an extended period.
You have been professional, brave, and ethical in your leadership.
There is nothing that needs doing that cannot wait until Monday. The starter gun cracks on the weekend, late this afternoon, and the finishing flag is your arrival at work on Monday morning.
This weekend is for you! A welcome oasis and a celebration of Mothers to boot!
Clear your mind from the noise and breathe.
You deserve it!
